Quality copywriting can help you attract clients. Whether it’s through engaging sales emails, compelling sales pages, or captivating website copy, words matter.

Because managing the copy AND serving your clients just isn’t an option for most entrepreneurs, investing in a copywriter is the best choice.

Newsflash: If you’re worried about whether or not someone can actually write in your voice, you’re not alone.

This blog gives practical tips on how to work successfully with copywriters to ensure your content is authentic.

But First A Little Copywriting 101

“Copy” refers to written words, and a “copywriter” is the person who crafts those words. Copywriters handle various tasks, including:

Sales Emails: Crafting engaging sequences that pique curiosity, build relationships, and prompt readers to take the next step.

Sales Pages: Creating emotional connections, addressing objections, and answering questions long before a call.

Website Copy: Grabbing attention within eight seconds, addressing pain points, and prompting action with enticing web copy.

Finding A Copywriter

From coaching to copywriting, investing in support for your business is essential. But If you’ve never worked with a writer before, you might be stumped about how to find a great copywriter. Consider the following options:

1. Ask your “biz bestie” who has had a great experience herself.

2. Collect dependable recommendations from business groups.

3. Search LinkedIn for copywriters who share valuable insights.

Be sure the copywriter you’re considering has an onboarding process that digs deep. They should be asking lots of questions and doing lots of listening so they can capture your voice. Bottom line: Your voice is uniquely yours, and it should be center stage in your copy.

The Importance of Capturing Your Unique Voice

Your voice is what helps build relationships with your audience, creating a connection even before a discovery call. To ensure your voice shines through, look for testimonials from other clients.

What are they saying about their experience?

Were they pleased with the final draft?

Preparing for a Successful Copywriting Partnership

Preparation is key to a successful copywriting partnership. To get one step ahead of the process, gather the following before you hire your copywriter. Sharing this information with your writer will help them learn your style.

2-4 pieces of written content: This can include blogs, emails, and social media posts.

1-2 links of you speaking: Videos or podcast episodes are great for showcasing your nuances.

No samples? No problem. Share content from others whose personality/voice aligns with yours.

Tip: Choose diverse samples that showcase different aspects of your voice. This helps give a comprehensive view of your style.

Your examples should reflect who you currently are. The copywriter needs to know the words, phrases, and quirks that apply to you today.

The Magic of Deep Dive Calls

Deep dive calls are one of the most crucial steps in my process for copywriting clients. These 30-minute chats provide the personal touch needed to ensure your voice comes across authentically. They also reduce the number of needed revisions, making the entire process smoother and more efficient.

I once asked a client if she wanted curse words or scriptures in her copy on a deep dive call. We laughed (probably like you just did). But it showed her how much I cared about getting her voice just right. In the end, her audience couldn’t tell the difference between my writing and hers.

Feedback - Getting what you want?

Building a strong relationship with a copywriter who knows your voice and understands your brand is invaluable. If you love their work and they consistently deliver content that resonates, of course, you should explore an extended relationship.

And once you get that established, your candid feedback will be even more crucial. It’s how you’ll share updates about any changes in your brand’s direction or new preferences in tone and style. Your feedback helps your writer adjust and refine the content, aligning it more closely with your current goals and audience expectations.

Remember: Pointing out what needs to change and why is just as important as sharing what you love and why.

The Power of Trust in Copywriting

Trusting a skilled copywriter to capture your unique voice doesn’t have to be scary. When you play your part by providing clear guidance and feedback to your copywriter, the results can be truly impactful. With the right partnership, your content can shift readers from curious to connected to client.
