This past Friday, I got a cell phone plan that allows for limited international calls and internet access for about $45 a month.  I was about to have some kind of breakdown the other day. I was going to have to consider sacrificing a small and/or large animal.  It’s amazing how emotional I was getting about this. “No internet, no peace. We didn’t land on Plymouth Rock….”

I’m almost ashamed to admit this (not really because I’m sure most of you can understand my dilemma), but I second guessed my decision to come here when I realized I couldn’t get the internet in my apartment as soon as possible. I had been deprived of the luxury of searching for natural hair care on Instagram, scrutinizing people’s Facebook personas and googling random things that have nothing to do with my life.

The Reality Is

Americans are generally okay with rushing around and not taking the time to just be in the moment. Not having internet or a working cell phone has forced me to become more comfortable with being alone. There is something very special about embracing the silence and allowing yourself an opportunity to just …… be.

You should try it. For just five minutes every morning before you get out of the bed forget about the tasks ahead of you. Just focus on inhaling and exhaling.

I’m humbled when I acknowledge the fact that I have the option of calling a car service and hopping on a plane to change my environment to where the WiFi and calling options are abundant.  That opportunity isn’t available to most of the people I interact with here.

Thanks be to God for the ability to call my peoples and get my Google on now. Won’t he do it, ya’ll?!
